WHAT THE F*%! IS JOYENGINE?

JoyEngine was founded in 2006 by the team of the Boulder-based design studio cypher13. Rooted in the belief that the whole can be much greater than the sum of its parts, JoyEngine grew from the concept that good things were sometimes lost in the hype of lesser things – and that good things deserved to be shared.

After starting as a small boutique and gallery through which the three designers of cypher13 shared their favorite artists and objects, JoyEngine stretched into the blogosphere. Knowing that those who used the internet to say what was “cool” were not always qualified to do so, cypher13 decided that their blog would be built by contributors who were part of the scene they participated in and wrote of. Artists would write about art; designers would write about design; toy collectors would write about toys, etc. At it‘s most basic, JoyEngine would represent the thoughts and opinions of actual members of the creative community – not just people who surfed the net looking for the next best thing. In hopes that they could help spread the awesomeness of the best of the best, JoyEngine would also serve to expose the work of people who deserved the recognition.

Today, the content of JoyEngine spans everywhere from local art to streetwear to toy culture. Thanks to its wide and growing base of contributors, JoyEngine will soon offer an even more expansive overview of today‘s best underground movements.
